I dig that grate Jon. I generally would rather do the slab and panel’s because they are more challenging. Money is certainly better but the installs that work you over can put a damper on things. Finishing one now that went smooth for a change.

Steve, floor looks great. Ironically I just prices a floor just like that except the dark border is grey and 2 rows of 12x24 on the outside.

Thanks, I like to be creative like most who do tile it's not just a job to many of us we want to add our personal touches using our experience. We could be designers because we know how to arrange tile like a puzzle so the customer gets the WOW factor they are looking for.

Slab would be cool but the weight of them and handling them brings in a lot of risk. If you have a team of people that makes it possible. Even the large panel jobs can be taxing. When it comes to l using larger material it's more risk. Just like in a big expensive home you know going in you are going to be pushed to the limit and many times they don't want to pay you right. Like they say there is a reason they have so much $$$ they don't like to part with it. Not always but in my experiences it rings true. I like the middle class, not royalty

The job I just posted is my bread and butter money maker. 12X24 field tile with accents. Most of us work alone because we all have an MO. For me niche(s) and nice granite accent pieces are my style. I get in and get it done, and get out. When you linger it leaves a stench. Timing is critical in doing a shower. Any delays and you lose that ability to peak and move on. Key is to have plenty of tile and have your shit together and be there everyday, even if you don't work a full day.

Wallpaper coming back, I only see people removing it. Where you located Jeff

Helped out on the flooring for the slab job last night, 10 am - 7 pm. Dry-Fot and Set minus 3 cut pieces at the walk-in closet transition and 4 cuts around the water closet. Not to shabby for two mechanics, was thin gauge 29.5” by 29.5” tile, we bookmatched the veining for continuity across the entire floor

Not too shabby at all, when you are working with that size a tile there is no such thing are being fast. Looks like a very productive day for you both, well done. I don't look at jobs as to what I can get done in a day but getting something done every day. A puzzle so to speak each day but in the right order. Consistency day in day out is how you succeed. There is no PowerBall job in tile.

Now I see the shower layout, just need glass to finish it

Jon I’m in Chattanooga. Re the wallpaper In Oct I did a job that they wallpapered most of the rooms and had your reaction, everyone is tearing that out. Fast forward and the last 3 jobs have had lots of it being done. All high end homes with 3 different designers.

All styles, one had tiny glass beads for the face.

Jeff, I guess it just depends on your market. I haven't seen someone doing wallpaper around here for about 10 years. When I worked in my Godfather's mansion early in my career(2000-2008) he was putting it everywhere. I get in some high end homes I just don't see it.

I do not work with designers on projects or work for GCs anymore on new homes. I only work direct with the customer and it's normally just the master bathroom, doing all the tile work, plumbing, tub etc. I paint or have them paint after all the tile is finished so this is probably why I am not seeing it.

Now I will start getting requests, I don't even know anyone doing it anymore but again I do most of my own work for continuity so that limits my exposure. Maybe down towards Philly that might be more viable but I am more central near Hershey.

I know some designers push it for the expensive, high end homes, like 5 million plus. Tract homes go for 1 mil these days.....

I have seen leather, yes, leather wallpaper used here.

I can see that with designers, I had this discussion yesterday with a good friend he oversees a lot of work of all types to include tile. I see the showers his people put in too and they are all made to be done fast. I don't see the detail and elements we put into a shower. The difference is we are doing custom tile working with the customer and they are banging them out as quick as they can using simple elements like corian and foam trays. Some of these are multimillion dollar homes but less than impressive for the reasons stated above.

Designers put stuff on paper, they are not in the space they are not the mechanics. I have had issues in the past when I would work for someone else and have an issue with the design and want to revise it if it didn't work or I had a better idea. Some receptive some not. Now I don't need them anymore I do then design and I am the mechanic win-win for the customer. I listen to the customer first, letting them know what is possible. Perfect example did a job in Hershey which is made up of old homes. This one was the last job before I had my surgery and perfect example of delivering what the customer wanted with my choice of tile, layout, and quartz. He wanted a bench, shelf above it. Existing wallpaper to stay in as was the floor.

A couple weeks after I finished he spoke of a new floor but I wouldn't be able to get to it for some time so he nixed the idea wanted it now

Old home took out the cast iron tub, removed all the plaster. I like this new Schluter drain no screws.

On an unrelated note.... received both shots/doses of the vaccine. Second shot,gave me chills later that nite. something to think about,if wanting the shot/s,on the fence in regards to doing vaccine or not.

Pool retile, travertine coping on pool & raised spa. Stone panels on outside of raised spa, tile spill way. Onsite bullnose fab for outside corner returns
