Glass Floor Tile Installation

What if your installing glass 12x12 or 16x 16 tiles over ditra over self leveling cement over Nu Heat over 1/2 CBU or mortar bed over subfloor. Wouldn't Mapei Kerapoxy be essential for the bond to glass? A slow cure would be able to be achieved with a 1/4 inch expansion around the rooms perimeter. I'm dealing with a manufacturer that does not give specifics on application. Ditra does not specify this app. for glass. TCA does similar for Hydronic. Any advice? thanks mark

Does this glass have a white backing or is it clear? I would skim coat the glass with kerabond/keralastic, let dry; then install with unmodified. what manufacturer of glass or heat matt are we talking about anyway.

This installation is in your own house, I trust? That is a very, very risky installation and you are generally dependent upon the glass tile manufacturer for specific instructions and setting and grouting materials. What is the manufacturer's name?

Far as I know, Kerapoxy is a grout, not a setting material. Someone will correct me if that's not the case.

And I'd sure wanna know a lot more about your subfloor before we went any further.

Kelly, Kerapoxy is a epoxy mortar and grout. Kerapoxy IEG is just a grout. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Just guessing but I assume that if it says "mortar", you can bond tiles with it. Although, plain ol grout is mortar to me.

Thanks for your response. The electrical warm flooring is Nu Heat, I have installed this product many times, and recommend it. I am a licensed c-54 (Ca) tile contractor. The tile is "moda vetro" glass tile. The spec sheet names Pental Stone and tile from Seattle, but i believe the product is based from China. There specs do not give just that " specifics" unlike Oceanside Glass Tile and others. It does have a backing and I am trying to find out if it is a hot, warm, or cold fired glass. Glass has different requirements than ceramic and stone. The specs from Ditra, Nu Heat, Mapai, TCA, all vary a bit. I know that glass is not a one size fits all application. I can't guarentee an install without specifics. But I would like to find the best method of install. Thanks again Mark.

One thing about glass on the floor. it's gonna be slippery as all get out. do they realize that fact? and make sure the manufactuer recommends it as a floor tile. some don't.
