If I understand what you've removed, Steve, I wouldn't concern myself with adding any lateral bracing at all. But if you're concerned you could attach some braces fastened with deck screws so they could be removed if necessary. Might improve your comfort level, but I doubt they would actually improve the structure much.

What's the longest completely un-braced span you've created of a top chord of any truss?

Probably on the order of 10 feet.

I came to a similar conclusion myself - attach a brace with deck screws so it was easily removable in the event that I needed to get in there. So, that's just what I did.

The resulting unsupported span is now about 5 feet.
