Help with bathroom tile design issue

We have gutted our bathroom and are ready to install our new Kerdi shower!

I want to tile the walls of the bathroom (about 48" high) using subway tiles (daltile Rittenhouse). I really want to use the matte tiles because I think they look more "antique" -- our house is 175 years old.

The p[roblem is I really would like to add a shelf/chair rail, and it appears they only come in gloss. Should I use the matte tiles with the gloss chair rail, or stick to all gloss? I am using white, and would consider gloss black chair rail if I could find one. Any ideas????

Lynne,

Welcome to the JB Forums. Click on 'Liberry' in the dark blue banner above. There are many pics of traditional tile.

I think you would be fine to mix the gloss chair rail with the matte field tile. Really it is just up to you. If you think it looks good then it doesn't matter what others think.

Thanks

Thanks, Bryan, appreciate the help. I've decided to use all gloss. We looked at it both ways, and it looks better.
