Kitchen Backsplash Layout

I have really enjoyed this forum and have learned a lot from it. I am about to put in a 6”x6” diagonal backsplash. My kitchen has what I will call a front wall which is the focal point coming into the kitchen. This is where the stove and microwave are located, off center to the left about one foot. The microwave is on top of the stove. The right wall ends and there is a small L-shaped counter which was added to the right counter on the right end. It comes out into the eating area. It extends about 21” from the end of that wall. (The other side of the right wall that ends has a hallway and an open space in the kitchen for an eating area.) I had planned on starting at the right end of the right wall with 3”x12” bullnose and then starting with whole diagonal tiles. I have read that the focal point to the eye will be the tile under the microwave and over the stove. They said to find the center of the space below the microwave and start laying tile left and right from the center point. (There are upper cabinets to the left and right of the microwave.)

If I do that, it seems to me that the intersection of the right side of the front wall and the left side of the right wall may have an uneven tile pattern. The left side of the front wall turns under the cabinets to the left wall and goes under a window then under another cabinet and then will stop behind the refrigerator. I don’t see a problem connecting the left wall to the left side of the front wall by using the remainder of the cuts from the left side of the front wall when I turn in that corner.

Any suggestions about how to lay the tile on the right wall and the front wall? Sorry for any confusion. Thank you and have a great day.

John

I do weird layouts I have been told. I stand back look at where my eye goes and then think from there. yes you start in the center of the focal point. but if you are not doing a pattern other than a 45 degree splash you can bend the rules some. i just like to make sure I have good cuts everywhere. Does your tile have any bullnose to offer in the same tile??? this would also be a factor in layout?? welcome to the boards good luck. post some pics if ya can.
