Well it's about bloody time

After having been variously declared: dead, in the best of health, dead, comatose, dead, on life support, dead, in serious condition, dead, critically ill, dead, ready for a heroic return (this from his wife), and then dead again, Arafat has finally decided to cooperate and go tits up.

As you can guess i am not displeased with his passing. The Palestinians deserved better than this corrupt clown. Sadly they were left with no alternative. Sadly it appears that another is being groomed to take his place.

One obstacle has been removed. Sharon can now do us all a favour and follow him with all possible alacrity.

Hopefully they can come to some sort of agreement without him. Your absolutely correct, " Its about bloody time".

One more terrorist sent to the other side. What do you suppose his contribution in the afterlife will be?

My sentiments exactly with regard to Sharon.

However, Jeremy why did Arafat receive the Nobel Peace Prize? If he didn't force his people's plight into the world spot light, who was going to do that?

And having received it did he do a single damn thing to further their cause? NYET.

I seriously doubt that many in the US are aware of just how personally corrupt the SOB was.

He got the Nobel nomination by default. Rabin couldn't be nominated alone.

"I seriously doubt that many in the US are aware of just how personally corrupt the SOB was."

That's because the press over here loved him, and most Americans are too damn lazy and uninterested in what is going on in the world. As long as they can watch their sitcoms and stuff their faces, to hell with the rest.

I wonder how many millions he stashed away in Swiss accounts. Mrs Arafat is trying to get as much of that as she can. Last I heard she had a personal allowance of $150,000 per month. Kinda tough to live in Paris on that. meanwhile the Palestinians are living in tents and hovels

They're still not saying just what the mystery illness was.

And...it looks like the widow Arafat will come into 22 mil per annum.

But this article is more to my way of thinking:

Suha has demanded a seat in the cabinet as well as her fair share of the spoils. Arafat had a brother Ahmed here. A wonderful gentleman of my personal acquaintance. Ahmed is no longer with us. There is another brother in the UAE. Brother and wife and daughter will share the estate. As to his swiss holdings there is a villa two plots down from the Saudi monarchs compound. Not too shabby and absolutely not his you understand. Suha gets $100,000 a month. Pretty shitty stipend. I know M couldn't possibly manage on so little . Remember that every single cent belongs to the people he supposedly reprensented.

OK it's official. Arafat was a great statesman. Robert Mugabe has pitched up at his funeral to confirm it.

And quote of the year from Hassan Eassa an arab pundit on the BBC watching the funeral:

"Arafat was always very proud of being military. If he was alive today he would be very happy with his funeral."

Just noticed I'm an uregistered guest.

Imagine that, a timeless charter member. A subject of digitalis dementialis, I guess. One of you pass it on to the "da Boss" that the being holding the results of his attempt at crossing the Jordan really needs to visit the lavoratory. He won't understand, but.......

How are you Jim? From your accent, I can tell you haven't moved to CO. Better for the three of you, I think. I miss clowning around with all you gize. I'll be back sooner than you desire, this is temp connection. It sucks. I told 'em you said so.

Hey JB

Sir Gallahad returns. Sorely tested but endowed with the wisdom of the Holy Grail. He slew many dragons and comes with a demon on his shoulder.

Prepare to welcome the return of a favourite son. Feasting and Gaiety is commanded. Break out firkins of fine ale, make a roux and lay maidens at his feet
