Lack of finish options with WEDI drain

Hi all,

I visited my local KERDI and WEDI dealer yesterday, and was impressed with the WEDI system. The board is much stiffer than I thought it would be. I also like that the pan can be used with smaller tiles if you use epoxy thin set and grout.

I am, however, disappointed in the very limited color options for drain grates. Does engine know if the KERDI grates will fit in the WEDI frame? The dealer did not have a KERDI grate in-house to try.

Client is using brushed gold Moen fixtures for everything in the room and wants the drain grate be be at least close to that in color.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Nope.

The Kerdi grate works only with the Kerdi drain.

There's no minimum tile size restriction in a Kerdi shower install. The fabric spreads the load so, once cured, they stay in place. The Wedi panel's outer layer needs the stronger bond of epoxy to handle smaller tile, otherwise, a point load can move a tile, making it come loose as the foam compresses.
