Sunken shower

Hi, am new here in the forum this is a new construction concrete sunken shower and i want it to be a curbed shower does the drain has to be flush with the concrete and if the pan needs a liner then the mortar and slope. Can i use green drywall or durock.i want to put 3 coats of redguard and leave a 1" gap on the floor between the floor and the wall.

Welcome to the forum, David.

The drain flange (the widest part of that drain) actually needs to be about an inch above the slab. That height will be the thickness of your mud pre-slope. Of course, it will increase in thickness as it spreads out towards the walls, at least 1/4" per foot of run.

Then you'll need a liner on top of that slope, and a cement board on the walls. DO NOT use green board for your walls. If you do, we'll deny that you ever came to this site, or that we even know you at all. Only a real hack would use green board for anything other than for filling a dumpster.

Then you'll have another layer of mud on top of the liner, also sloped to shed water.

I would recommend that you spend a little time reading the shower construction thread in the Liberry. You'll find a lot of good information there that's vital to building a proper working shower.
