The dots are where my fingertips pushed down, but they are not spreading. There doesn't seem to be any wicking. Also, my text box I showed pictures of earlier did not wick anywhere when it leaked.
Brian seems to have the same action that I'm having. I think you've got defective material. You need to check with Wes.
My samples have been standing about three hours now. The water is not wicking, and there is no leakage through the membrane. I'll leave them all night and check them in the morning.

I want to be clear I am not trying to scare anyone away from using k-board. I awaited its arrival and thought that it would be an excellent way to do niches. I still hope that I can do that. I just want to be 100% sure I can continue to guarantee 100% waterproof-ness.

I made some k-board shooters. These are about the size of a short shot glass. I carefully filled them with water at 6 pm. At 6:08 I took this pic. One of the 4 shows signs of leaking.

Well, I just got my samples of 1/2 inch Kerdi-board in the mail today and what am I going to do with them? You got it! I'm going to soak the surface of one of them overnight and see what happens.
Paul, the board you have looks a lighter orange than the stuff I got today. Is that because you had dried it in the sun or is it just the lighting? What I got is a fairly bright color. Wonder if your was a beta or something like that.

I purchased by board this week, from a supplier in houston. I wouldn't think it is old but I could be wrong. The tag is still on the other sheet other sheet. I can have the techies at the mother ship analize it if it comes to that.

With all the back and forth on this, and all the garage lab testing going on, maybe it's time for JB to get one of the Schluter tech folks to join the discussion. We did maybe 10 tests here I'm sure Schluter has done hundreds at real lab conditions. Let's get their final verdict and do like we did with Kerdi - trust but verify.
Can you get someone on here from Schluter John? Even if it would be breakin rules I'd rather have defined results than speculation. I can't afford to make a mistake so let's nail this down.
