Glass tile for fireplace surround

My sister in law would like me to install glass mosiac around her gas fireplace. Is there any "thermal" reasons why I shouldn't? I have installed alot of glass tile but never around a fireplace. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

Hmm, good question and i don't know the answer myself, but i do know glass is considered a liquid and there has gotta be quite a bit of movement with that much heat,i'll wait to hear what the glass guys say.

Thanks Dave.
I will wait and see if the glass guys have an answer. I have seen pictures of hearths using glass but don't know the "best practices". I guess my sister in law would be a better guniea pig than a paying client

What is the tiling surface and how close to the opening of the metal insert firebox will the tile go?

Jad,
The substrate will come within an 1/8" of the firebox (front) sides and top. I can install any substrate I want (most likely CBU). I think the hearth is plywood now.
Thanks,
Rob
