Color enhancing travertine tiles

We're installing travertine on the master bath floor and tub/shower.

At the store where we bought the travertine, they showed samples of the tile with and without sealer/color enhancer. The tile color with the sealer/color enhancer was a soft gold that was the color we were seeking, shifting from a soft tannish color when untreated. We bought a quart of Tec Guard All Invisible Penetrating Sealer, ($59!) from the tile store. We have now applied three coats to half of the top side of one of the tiles and have seen only a minimal color shift on the tile, though it is very slowly going in the right direction.

Do we need to consider another product to get the color enhancement we are seeking or do we just need to keep applying it to see how many coats will be needed to get to the shade we want?

Thanks,
Rou

Hi Rou, Welcome!

Stop using that product, as it won't do what you want it to do. Since you know what effect you're looking for, check with the tile store where you made your purchase, and ask them what they used on the sample you liked. There are many different color enhancers on the market. They all provide different results.

Regardless, no matter what brand, make sure the product states on the label that it is a COLOR ENHANCER.

Thanks for the clarification

John,

Thanks for clarifying this for us. We exchanged it and got an enhancer/sealer and are on the right color path.
