I just logged in here to see what is going on and see that only 3 members are online right now. This forum has served to be a GREAT source of information and HELP to anyone, Pro or DIY..... I'm sure many are "over there" on
FB.... I'm coming back and will keep my posts on point and IF anything helps anyone, that is my intent!

We're certainly aware that a lotta the pros are spending their time over on Tile Geeks, Phil. They seem to like it not being open to the public, which is not at all what we intend here.

And many of them have long expressed the opinion that helping the DIYers here on our site is taking food out of their children's mouths. I've never understood that kind of thinking, but I know it's out there.

I don't agree with that either... We that are STILL in this trade have developed WISDOM. You don't get wisdom unless you put in the time. I personally think that the honorable thing to do is share that with the next generation of setters but, keeping in mind that " well that's how I used to do it...ect." is not a helpful response to a question.

I doubt the other place would be there without this as a foundation. To what Kelly said, I saw a post in the shallow end from a person who lives down the street. I would help him in a second even though I won't get the work, but i don't post my thoughts because i can't give the method number that approves my advice. I'm a little nervous to post I the shallow end. There is not a better place anywhere to find information on how to install any piece of tile under any conditions then right here. The other site, I think, is just what we all hoped the pro hangout would be. Oddly we still follow some rules created here, because they are good, but I doubt the folks born here will ever really leave home.

The traffic numbers are solid but I do think there is a drop off in the pros participation. I think FB is just easier to use. With all the complaints about posting photos and tapatalk problems the FB app is probably just a better user experience.

This site is sort of like an old car where you have to kick it and hit it sometimes to get it to work but it's comfortable, familiar, and reliable.

I will talk about the White Elephant in the room. there are fewer people (I've seen over the years!!) they are true troopers that express their opinions, in lieu of insurance, ridicule and and 'just want to do it different as such:'.
And yet they are judged and talked about here for whatever on the... oh 1/8, yes yes, the end result. trying to be funny ...

Nothing has dropped off. Right now I see over a hundred visitors to the Pro Hangout, and this is early Sunday morning.

The thrust of the JB Forums has always been service to consumers and DIYers. That is our basic mission. Maintaining a meeting place for people in the trade is important to us, but the vast majority of our users are not in the trade. We are still number one in that area and intend to remain there.

P.S. I'm a Tile Geek, too.

The John Bridge Forum has been a game changer for me and many. I will always be part of this forum as long as I am welcome. Tilegeeks started by Jack Hamilton is just an extension of this forum. This forum was created for DIY to come and get help with their project. In the professional hangout you make a post and you might not see another post for who knows how long so they are very different.

Over on Tilegeeks as a professional you get instant gratification when you make a post. Most are looking for that instant response when they post of pic or a question. 2 very different platforms. Speaking for the professionals and opinions I have heard you get redundant questions posted here. It is always good for "new" pros to come on board to answer the questions basically many have answered over and over.

I will say I just did another job because of this forum. Over the years I have gotten about 5 jobs now through this forum. This is the one we just did, Herringbone pattern in basement mancave. Customer thought is was too much for him to try so he found JD Tile. So on my 6,000th post I say thank you John Bridge and everyone here for an awesome forum.

I'm sure the diy people will still get great advice from the 3 or 4 people still around and actually qualified to give it.
Im using the term "quallified" very loosely. But that's none of my business.

You can say Tile Geeks Phil, everyone here knows what you're talking about.

It's simply two different formats, one doesn't take away from the other, imo. There are still the ones who believe helping diy'ers takes business away from them - to which I say they are doing something incorrectly. John has always said it, and I still believe it - if someone is intent on doing their own tile you aren't going to stop them.

But I'm sure we're all glad you chose to start a thread about this big white elephant, just in case anyone was uncomfortable about it (no one is, that I am aware...)
