Contractor left!

I'm in Northern NJ and my contractor decided he wanted to be done with our bathroom job. (He took 6 months for what we were told to be 6 weeks!)

We still have a little bit of tile/stone work left. A marble pencil (1x12") would border our vanity mirror. Mirror will likely be 32 x 39" (I'm flexible thou). After the pencil, we have 12 x 12" slate sheets (various sizes within sheet like a slate mosaic, eg. 1 x 3" 2 x 3", 2x2"). The vanity wall is 55" W x 59 1/4"H. No tiling on the side walls, just the back around the mirror. We're estimating the slate would need to be cut on the sides to about 10.5"W (12x10.5"); top and bottom of mirror, 9"H (12 x 9"). Obviously, we would need it to be grouted too. I'd be willing to seal myself!

Anyone interested? How much should I be looking to pay for a job like this?
Thanks!
Susan

Hi Susan,
Were I in your neighborhood, I'd want to come by and see what the previous guy left behind. I'm afraid a delay of that sort suggests either he didn't know what he was doing or didn't care about the job being done. In either case, it's possible that some things might have been done incorrectly and an evaluation of the whole project would be the only way i'd take it on. Sadly, that probably means throwing more money at a project i'm sure has already cost you more than you would have prefered to spend.
Can you post some photos of the work that's already been done? Maybe we can brainstorm together?

Hi Susan,

You've got another thread on this same bathroom, and way back somebody asked you to please not start new threads. There is a lot of history on the original that will have bearing on your problem.

It blows my mind that that a contractor would walk away from a job like that in this economy... Guess he didn't need the money?

Hopefully one of our guys within a reasonable distance can help you out!
