Tile on Tile for bathroom wall??

Hey Guys,
Can I tile over the existing 4" x 4" porcelean tile that is on my shower wall. Right now I have a tub / shower combo and it has this ugly 1980's 4" tile on the wall. I would love to tile over this with some tumbled marble or travertine. Can this be done without tremendous demolition work? If so what type of thinset and application should I use.

B'ham, AL.

Not that it CAN'T be done.....but it typically isn't done. Yes, you can "scarify" the existing tiles and go over them....but most of us here wouldn't and definately would not guarantee the job. Best thing is to demolish the existing and work with a "New Slate." (Well, not really "slate," but you get the idea.)
