Granite & Plywood

I understand that granite tiles need a 3/4 plywood base, but does slab granite? Does slab granite go directly on the countertop? I visited a kitchen designer today. We were figuring out different designs and the heights. One plan was granite slab, and I said add in the 3/4 plywood you would need underneath. He said you never put 3/4" plywood under granite slab. He said he nerver heard of it. Who is right? *lol*

Hello,

Second time I have answered a question by you and I don't even know your name! What shall I call you? ES for now,

ES,

Most 3-CM material does not need a plywood reinforcement. It will sit directly on top of the cabinets. I recommend a substrate for 2-CM material but many times people don't do it anymore. Some blocking between the 23 inch span can work.

So maybe both of you can be correct depending on the circumstances and thickness of material.

Steven
