Hired my son today

My middle child Josh graduated high school last year. He's considering colleges and hasn't decided yet. I brought him on to a job today and had him help me demo a tub surround shower and prep it with hardi. Its a basic rental unit, nothing fancy. I was impressed by his ability to recognize what he was looking at. No fear of working hard. Made me damn proud. If he doesn't find his way into some tech company that makes micro chips I'm going to turn him into a tile setter.

I would rather see him pursue his own interests. I have learned over the years that some people simply are not cut out for tile. Made me proud to see necessary characteristics in my boy. I had to boast in the only place I know of where others would actually understand this....cheers

Jack, sounds to me like you've been training him all his life to be an intelligent, responsible, hard working man!

What's up with the Hardi, Jack? Don't count him in until he has to haul mud up stairs all day. Just kidding, I'm sure he's a chip off the old block.

Davy this is a quick fix for a leaking 4x4 shower over sheetrock. Quick fix is to tear it out and rebuild it...cheaply. 4x4 and surface. Gotta get the renter's shower back and operable, and fast. D-100 tub shower. I think its a nice introduction to tile work. I'll show him what I specialize in later.

Just kidding Jack. Having a strong work ethic and positive attitude are great traits to have. Good job teaching your son.

Had my oldest sone workin for me awhile. He did pretty good and seemed to like it.
I looked at him one day and said"Son,i don't want you to do this,i gotta let you go,you'll understand one day."
He's a cop now.
That was a tough day.
He has two homes,wife and kid,retirement,sick days,off days,and works 3 or 4 days a week.
He has no knee operations,no hernias, good back.

I guess that makes me the winner.

Yeah but he has to carry a gun for protection. Just kidding, Dave. Sounds like he's done well.

It can be tough working with my dad everyday, but I think we appreciate each other and know each other better for it. Sometimes we don't know when to stop talking shop and just be father/son, but sharing a trade allows a platform we can always communicate about and communication is important.

Good luck with it Jack, I hope for patience from you both!

I agree tile ain't for everyone but it is for some of us Do what you get enjoyment out of I tell everyone and if it pays you.... bonus. Money and happiness don't always go together, money and greed do though. Million dollar homeowners and ferrari drivers, yes you only see the surface the home the car do you know the person. Big homes and expensive cars mean one thing, someone else will want them.

I would only want someone to do tile if they choose it. Jack, get him doing mud and cleaning it off his shoes...lol
