Hollow Metal Mosiac Install

I’m going to be doing a backsplash using a Maniscalco hex mosaic. The mosaic is a mix of glass and metal tile. I would say around 50%- 60% of the tiles are metal.

The backs on all the metal tiles are hollow with a thin (about 1/16”) lip around the edge. The recessed area is probably about 3/16” deep.

What’s your protocol for installing something such as this? All the metal tile I have worked with was a cap over a porcelain tile...I’ve never seen them hollow like this.

From their website: no need to fill the backs...

I’m a skeptic.

I have installed a few, I try to fill the metal in as much as I can. You can use a 1in putty knife a tongue depressor or a grout bag. Those are the least messiest that I can think of off the top of my head. Then spread a thinset on the wall and slap your tile up there
