Bathroom remodel, Not sure what to do with Shower drain

Hello all,

I am currently working on remodeling the master bathroom in my house. I am confused on this drain. It had 2 pvc pieces inside with a rubber seal. I cant for the life of me get the metal flange part off. Any ideas on how I can do this? Sorry about the poor lighting. No power in the bathroom right now.

Welcome, Jeremy.

You are perhaps intending to build a tiled shower that uses that drain riser?

If so, you'll need a different type of drain and that will require chipping some concrete. It appears to me from your photo that you have a cast iron drain riser, which would mean you also have a cast iron P-trap below, which, were it my remodel, would mean chipping enough concrete to permit replacement of the P-trap as well as the riser and drain.

Or, of course, I could be completely wrong about your intent and what you have there.

My opinion; worth price charged.
