Kerdi Band Waterproofing

For waterproofing Ditra: the directions on the Schluter website say that for a five inch wide piece of Kerdi band to lay down an eight inch wide swath of thin set and then set the Kerdi in the it. If you do not tile right away and the thin set that is sticking out from the edges of the Kerdi drys, does that become a problem?

Hi Holly, I say no!!!!!!!! no problem Most Times I mark my walls where the seems of kerdi will meet & kerdi band those areas , then band all my corners & then apply my sheets of kerdi. But occational I do it the way you describe & just wipe the exess of with a sponge after I putty knife it. Either way don`t matter.

As lou said it shouldn't be a problem as long as you trowel it flat and don't leave any ridges or humps of thinset. You could set the Kerdi band as you tile as well if you like. Be sure to fill all the waffles under the Kerdi band as well.
