I think you'll find the same is true for the code requirement that the waterproof liner rise a minimum of six inches up the walls or 3 (or 2) inches above the
finished curb top, Jim. Has never made any sense to me, but nor does the lack of any requirement for shower entry height above the drain at all if there is no curb.
But I recall when the TCNA Methods and Materials committee had a member contact representatives of the plumbing code committee and he verified that that's indeed what the plumbing code requires; no curb, no height requirement at all. Don't know if there's ever been any follow-up on that, but at the time the plumbing people didn't see any need to change that requirement. You might wanna check with somebody on the various technical committees to see if that's ever been pursued further.
And that should answer your query, too, Dean. As silly as it may sound, there is no requirement for curb-height-above-drain if there is no curb.
