Removing tape residue from limestone

Had this question as part of my first thread in the advice forum and it was suggested that I might want to post it here.

We are using 16 x 16 gascogne blue limestone for the ceiling and when it was delivered they had used clear packing tape to hold the bundle together so there was a gummy residue on the face of two of the tiles. We tried denatured alcohol and got the tape off, but when the tile is wetted down there is a light stripe where the residue sealed the pores of the stone. With two tiles breaking and some of the weird patterns and coloring on others we need one of the taped tiles or we'll be short. What would you suggest to clean out the pores of the tiles or should we just bite the bullet and get more?

You might try one of the sealer strippers, like Mirastrip,or a paint/urethane stripper like Jasco.

Hi Don, Welcome!

This is a very moisture sensitive limestone. Do some TESTing on one of the extra pieces. I would start with Dave's suggestion trying a Methylene Chloride based Urethane/Epoxy remover. Try to do this outdoors with plenty of ventilation, neoprene gloves, & eye protection.
