Brown Stains in new Marble Tile

We recently had marble tile installed as backsplash in our kitchen, and within 1-2 days of install, brown stains began to appear in several spots on one particular wall (see attached pictures).

The distributor is not claiming any responsibility after install, and the contractors claim it is a property of the marble tile.

Has anyone seen this before, and are there any recommendations to remove these stains? I have tried a basic All-Purpose marble cleaner with limited results.

Thanks!

Welcome, Doug.

Can you provide specific information on the tile? You can't yet post links, but just spell out the URL with an extra space in the www and a moderator will light it up for you.

Over what substrate was the material installed?

With what bonding material was the tile installed? Again, be very specific.

You have photos of the wall before the installation?

Doug, Everyone will want to know what product was used to bond the marble to the drywall. I am guessing it is a mastic of some type that should not have been used to bond marble. lets find out!

I was thinking the same as John. Maybe the oils from mastic bled through to the surface.

Just talked to the contractor, looks like they used thinset. Unforunately, my GC is unsure of the specific brand used by the SC. Will continue to dig though

Doug, that "thincoat" is not a term that will compute for most of our people. Can you be more specific, please? A brand name and model of the product would be good.

What's odd though, is we had two other small walls tiled with the same thinset mortar that do not have this issue

Ask them if it was premixed thinset.
