Eric's Kerdi Shower / Tile Install

Hello and thank you in advance for your advice. I've been doing a lot of searching and reading this forum throughout my project and still haven't found the answer. My project is a bathtub to shower conversion. I used moisture-resistant drywall for the walls and it has a 3/4" OSB subfloor.

I'm preparing to install 12x24 porcelain tiles on the walls on a Schluter®-KERDI membrane. I wanted to use the Schluter ALL-SET® Specialized Modified Thin-set Mortar to secure the tile to the walls (and penny tiles on the Schluter®-KERDI-SHOWER prefabricated sloped shower tray), but can't find it at a reasonable price.

What suitable thin-set options would you recommend?

Thank you,

Welcome back, Eric.

Depends upon where you shop and what brands are easily available to you.

CX thank you for the fast response. Would Laticrete 317, Laticrete MegaBond, Laticrete 272, or Mapei KeraBond be good options?

If you are concerned that you use only an unmodified thinset mortar (ANSI A118.1), any of those three would be good choices.

The MegaBond is a polymer additive, to the best of my knowledge, and would not be used in that case. If it's also a mortar, I'm not familiar with it.

You have access to all those mortars in Somewhere, Nebraska? A little more specific geographic location in your User Profile might be helpful at times.

My opinion; worth price charged.

Hi Eric,

You might double check with Schluter, but I believe when using their foam shower tray they recommend a tile size of at least 2"X2".
