Adjust door?

Didn't quite tile the door to my balcony closed but close.

The weather stripping on the bottom of the door is a little too tight to the tile making the door a little tuff to open.

I tried bending the hinge a little to adjust it and didn't get much out of that. It helped, previously the door needed to be lifted to latch the deadbolt. Now it locks without having to yank the door up.

There isn't a whole lot of room at the top, 1/8th at hinge side and 3/16ths on knob side.

What's the best way to adjust this door/thinner weather stripping?

Might not get much movement if the casing or brick mold is on, but try removing a screw from the top hinge and driving a 3" screw in that hole. It really depends on whether there is room at the bottom, if there are shims behind the jamb, or if the jamb is already tight to the framing.

You can look at new sweeps but most wont be much thinner. Replacements are usually bigger.

If the reveal on the latch side is not quite parallel, remove the bottom hinge and put a shim in under it, then reinstall. Thin pressboard, or maybe a few sheets of paper will work. That will tilt the door slightly, raising the outer edge and should also make the reveal at the top now become the same all across.

If you can lift the door, that implies the hinges either aren't tight, or they are worn (or the door is not very stiff!).

A thinner door sweep may not seal well.
