You always need a grout joint for floor tile. Think of it this way, the joint isn't perfect. Spill some milk or beer or wine (not counting the dust/dirt, etc that you'd never get out) down on the floor. You wipe it up as quickly as you can or not, whatever got down between the tile will migrate under the tile. Now you've got a floor that smells like a brewery or puke after things ferment for awhile. Be glad they put in grout!

You will want to put down a good sealer on the whole floor, if it wasn't done.
