I have some experince with tile, but have never run across this issue.

I have a bathroom to retile which had ceramic over a mud floor.

I would like to remove just the tile then place new ceramic over the old mud.

I plan to scrape the old tile out with a cold chisel or a scraper then use some leveller to smooth out and peaks or divots.

SHould I put a thin layer or thinset over the mud wait for drying then thinset for the tile?

I'm not sure how to proceed, any advise?
