Nothing goes in there, Ronnie.

The fiber/cement boards are a poor choice for walls in a shower with a traditional mud/liner/mud receptor for the very reason that you cannot bury the bottom of the wallboard in the top mud bed for support. You cannot use mechanical fasteners lower on the wall than 3 inches above your curb top and there's just nothing at all to hold the bottom of the wallboard as is the case when using a true (ASTM C1325) CBU.

The only thing that will be supporting that bottom edge will be the flexible sealant you'll use between the wall tiles and the floor tiles. I don't like it much, but I didn't get a vote.

My opinion; worth price charged.
