I don't think compression would be an issue, but safety might be. If you get them so high that they're not stable, that would be a problem. You could gauge that as you go, and depending on the conditions in the area.

I imagine having a stack of 18x18's fall on you would cause quite a boo-boo.

For what it's worth, putting that tallest stack in a corner would be better, if you can do that.
