I've always been able to nail my wood floors down. I'm sure you have a good vapor barrier under slab hopefully?
Oh, BTW, in my current remodel, I have had to tear out some - just a little - 1 1/2" white oak (Bruce) that was all hand nailed (4 penny finish). I am assuming in the 40's. They put down about 3,000' of the stuff throughout the house. How laborious you reckon that was? I had to patch 2 old floor furnace spots that took me a day each.
