I know you mentioned adding a stud where the Kerdi meets the drywall. Sometimes we end up adding two or three on each side. You want to be able to fasten your glass enclosure to a stud, not just into the Kerdiboard. It's very likely the original enclosure was fastened to the tile and mud and no stud. Mud will hold screws and anchors, Kerdiboard may not.
