It depends of the type of low voltage fixtures. Most of those I have are based on switching supplies. They dim kind of of bit, then to about halfway and then off. More so with LED lamps. I wanted dimmable spots in the bedroom so I could lower them down when reading real books before sleeping. (Yup, I still read paper stuff sometimes.)
Anyway, the low voltage bulbs on that line are based on a magnetic ballast. The fixtures were bigger, heavier, and cost more, but dim smoothly from full to a glimmer as does the regular incandescent lamp on that line. Iím using Lutron dimmer rated for magnetic and incandescent. Dimming LED and CFL Iíve found to always be less than satisfactory.
