Quarry tile is a workhorse in that application, stone, not so much. I would be gun shy of thin stone over quarry on an exterior. I live near Milwaukee. All my exterior tile is fine.

Fairly high likelyhood there will be a bondng issue. You also shouldn't have a bunch of visible grooves under the tile if it has a required 95% coverage.
