I bet the wall cavity is super gnarly. You may want to drill from the backside of the wall and use a bore scope to assess the extent of the mold growth before deciding on a course of action.

Im good to go now...I tore it out and used a bag of sand mix and 1/2 bag if sand. I also nailed the lathe on 6" centers vs. Just a few staples before.

It's super solid now....I built it much...
