I actually like row 1 &3 2&4 being the same. Not a fan of the stairstep. With 2 colors of tile though, it may be a little commercial looking, but who knows.

As far as president mixed or bucket grout go, flex color is about the best i've used. Not a fan of those grouts, but that's a good one.

Yes you need to put thinset under the board, and yes thinset and mesh tape the seams. Some guys tape as they go, and you can start setting on it as soon as it's thinsetted and screwed or nailed down.

They probably all looked that white before install, the others have changed due to moisture but those may have had something on them to prevent or retard the moisture from getting into the stone?

I would look into the Wedi Ligno. No cutting of the joists which would make me nervous. The ligno is very installer friendly.

Just to echo Jim, make a straight cut then bevel. Lot less stress on the blade. Probably take a few passes since the blade will wander more.

Use the piece that gets cut off to start your next row. You'll have less waste and a more random pattern, which in my opinion looks best with these kind of tiles.

Time to start over. I think I heard somewhere that you need to waterproof 12" minimum outside if a curb less shower...and that is far less then I agree with..better to take it out now before wasting...
