as mentioned above... zero benefit with using quick set mortar under CBU... the mortar under is only there to fill voids

and if you must use quick set on the tile, like mentioned above, use SMALL...

keep grout lines consistent and all should line up perfectly... i sweat islands too, but all works out in the end if you take your time and measure twice (more like 10 or 12 times)

What I did, was start my tile around the island...

when applying over a slab with expansion joints... do you need to fill in the joint with silicone/latex caulk first? or simply lay...
