CX, I believe you, but if I pursue this, how do I refute this, since it is news to most that water soaks into tile/grout? (Then spills out into the surrounding room if the weepholes are plugged...) ...

can a shower meet code but fail miserably?

eurob, thanks for the link. I did look and it has great visuals that may come in handy.

I got the code, at least I may have. Can my shower meet this and still fail to contain water? Does my...

the rest of the shower

I thought my husband was going to keel over yesterday when he saw a repair estimate for $15,800 to clean up the mold and reconstruct. It just ties me up in knots to think of borrowing money or...

No speedbump but the top surface ramps up to walk in (see first pic), then down toward the drain, dropping about 2-3 in over the 8 foot width of the shower. There was never any (apparent) need for a...

The shower is L shaped. It is on the wall that backs up to the tub.

We're faced with $10k+ in repairs of 2 showers that we don't think were built right. If it truly was a liner failure or maintenance issue as the builder claims, I don't want to mistakenly blame the...

CX- I don't see teeth in the plumbing code- are we out of luck?

I found out that 1997 Standard Plumbing Code is what applies. It is much less detailed than the current code. As we face many thousands in repairs of 2 showers, we may need to decide whether to...

Has anyone used the positive weep protector?
Is it rigid enough that it won't get smushed by the mortar bed not allowing water to pass, but floppy enough that it won't allow wet mortar to clog it?
