Whenever I run into this problem, which isn't very often, I try to talk the homeowners into adding a row pencil rails above and below the thicker tiles. Or you can add Kerdi under the field tiles....

Sorry, I guess I'm missing something, I don't quite understand the problem. I wouldn't stop the tiles at the edge of the tub but would run it out beyond the tub so it will go on down to the floor....

Like Lou said, running the thinset notches the short direction will give better coverage but that's not a rule I always follow. I do skim coat the backs of every piece which I feel is very important....

You could get a fabricator to make you a 2cm (about 3/4) piece with a 2cm dropped edge for the sill. That would hide nearly all of it. The only problem is 3/4 may be too thick for the window sill....
