Mine wall is typical 2x4 but I suppose I could sister 2x6 to the existing 2x4 and then just create the niche to the 2x6. Not sure I want to do the work though.

I have the ply down but under the kick area of the vanity ther is a 1/2 to 1 1/2 in gap and 1/2 between wall and ply in some areas
