How long is that wall with the niche? If it’s not a huge number of tiles, you could try removing the top row of tiles, ripping off an 1/8” and hitting that cut edge with a diamond sanding block.

For consistency, you should be able to make a snowball. If it doesn’t stay together, the mix is...

Live and learn. I always thought anything rated as sheathing was a no-go. Maybe because the local big box sheathing seems to just be CD.

I’m curious why the term “sheathing” is included in the...

Then yep, I’d do as Davy suggested.

When I’ve been in a similar situation, it’s been a 2-step process. I’ve first ripped a 2” wide or so strip of ditra / backer board / etc....anything the...

Am I missing the problem? You say the mosaic measures 5/16” thick, and you’re measuring the gap at 5/16” as well?

Once installed, they’re just going to hanging from clips? If so, just 1 row at the top? Or several rows spaced top, middle, bottom? Is each panel going to be independent from each other? And do...

Do *you* give floor tile a full 24 hour cure before traffic?

I'm curious how other people schedule their projects.

If I finish setting a floor by 4 or 5 PM, I'm typically back on it by 8:00 the next morning to at least pull any spacers and clean out...

I would CBU tape and thinset that seam.

What size tile is going on the walls? Depending on the trowel size, that may eat up any slight height discrepancy between the k-board and taped corner.

Is the tile ceramic? Stone?

In any case I’d suggest doing a mock-up sample with the grout before proceeding with the entire job.

Yeah once you thinset it down to the floor, thinset the ends to the walls, and have Kerdi lapped from the pan and walls onto the curb, it ain’t going nowhere.

Find some matching half-round or pencil trim, miter the ends, and picture frame the niches by epoxying them on so they cover the exposed tile edges.

Travis - it’s not that the plastic strips themselves are prone to cracking, but rather they act as cold joints in the mud that make the mud more prone to cracking along those strips

TLS straps - now just shipping in cardboard boxes?

Just received an order of 1,000 TLS straps from Contractors Direct. They used to come 500 apiece, each in a nice red 5-gallon bucket. Made it easy to soak the straps right in it, and transport...

Yep, too much water during mixing or application could cause cracking. But those joints look pretty full and that can be difficult with loose grout. I’d bet on movement before too much water.
