Yeah, I didn't anticipate mortar getting everywhere, and have a multi-pack of sponges to have on hand when restarting tiling.

Just picked up the brick-on-a-stick, and thank you for the suggestion....

So I've had to redo a few rows of tile, twice. First because I mixed the thinset too dry and it skinned pretty quickly, next because my tiling was so bad you'd swear the tiler was drunk and I'd swear...

Slipped subway tile

As usual, a mistake was made in the last 10 minutes of work - there are two tiles (3x12 subway) above a shelf-e that have slipped up nearly 1/2". I think they have pretty good thinset coverage...

I see. So the reason to not use tar paper with thinset is the faster setting time means less water is pulled out, and thinset is weaker across voids?
