There's another reason he doesn't want to use thinset (although I guess it, too, would come under the same "lazyness" excuse): it's what he's always done. He's 65, on the verge of retiring to Florida...

CX, if you & Davy are referring to the Durock instructions, well I do believe them. But I had read here that for thinset it didn't really much matter which side was out. I was HOPING it WOULD matter...

I know I shouldn't use mastic to tile my tub walls. If I had my druthers I wouldn't. Unfortunately I surrendered my druthers when I got married. So the question ... ... still stands....
