If you have a HD near you, Traci, they have a thinset mortar by Custom called "Versabond", and that will be just fine for setting your tile. Get the white, and you don't really need the "LFT" variant.

The Ditra Heat mat is very easy to install and nearly fool proof. I mean, if I can do it...… ;)

Might be a little more costly but will make up for it with ease,...

Traci, using a tile backer board is the safest bet to a long lasting tile installation over plywood. The backer isn't for water proofing, it's to provide a very stable substrate to set tile on.
