JB- so the tile goes UNDER the brass collar or OVER It to the cardboard tubing?
OR- does it still screw in to the plywood, but the hardibacker goes up to the brass collar and then the tile over it...

weird glue under backsplash

I took off the old tile (on a dry backsplash area) which looks like it was stuck on with some brown glue or some sort. can I smooth this down or should i just replace the sheetrock? Advice?

thanks folks! I had a Makita set that I beat to death. Time to renew... I used that set for everything from tile to woodwork. I liked the 4 inch circular saw...kind of "ladies sized".
