Thanks everyone. So I’ll cut as I go. Yes, putting down thinset for those smaller pieces can be a PIA and not as much consistency for the thinset depth.

Yeah getting my grid down and “tight” means...

Big area and hall; whole tiles then cuts, or finish each area?

Starting on my biggest tiling job yet (yeah I know it’s no biggie for some of you). But I’m putting down 12x24s in a hallway and a dining room and family room. For efficiency sake and keeping things...

I gotta say, Koihito has a point. The grey pretty much looks like cement board. For some guys and gals a foam board system is an upgrade at an extra cost. Schluter does have that impact of looking...

Are you talking the corner seam, where the walls meet at a 90? Guess you could use the kerdi corners for those.

To a more esoteric question, how did you make the mental leap to use your approach...

Thanks for the feedback Kevin. I can push the wall to the left maybe 3", which would maintain a clearance of 17" between the toilet o.c. and the wall. Not bad.

Bad drain location, considering options

This is a tough one, for me at least. This is for a bathroom being added to an unfinished space with an existing drain roughed in (house is 6 years old).

The attached plan shows the location of...

I tried kerdi fix and it worked real well. Good stickiness, fast dry time, very strong. Within an hour or two the trim had a very strong hold. Too bad its @ $20 a tube. :uhh:

Riprap,

Any idea on the price difference between just hardi and drywall with kerdi?

Don't get me wrong I like kerdi, used it before. Just not sure if the customer is sold on it.

Use a schluter pan with hardi walls?

I should say hardi, durock, etc .... Basically, is anyone doing this? I could run the kerdi behind or on top of the hardi, say, 6" up the wall. Kerdi on top of the hardi will leave a little lip...
