This isn't the drain, its the overflow, on the side of the tub. An inch and a half ABS pipe, which then drains into the main drain. In case DW overfills the tub.

I did consider ditra, but 7-800 feet of it is pretty pricey. yes, that is the sequence, lathe stapled down, and then thinset.
How is it that setting tile on plywood isn't ok?

I am having a tiler install the slate in my house (16inch multicolor) and he wants to put expanded mesh lathe down as he says he can't warrent the installation over plywood.

I'm about to lay 1000 feet of Indian slate and have seen a large-16" or greater trowel, but haven't been able to find one locally.
Anyone know of a source for such things?

Yea, I did tile directly.
I didn't know.
Subsequently I tried my darndest to pry a tile off and was unable.
Unless there is a LOT of movement when the tubes heat up, I think I'll be ok.

Have finished tiling the bathroom with daltile 2"mosaic, set with versabond on gypcrete.
The tub is cast iron and weighs 300#.
We'll move it in on dollies.

I went back saturday and did my best to pry a tile up and was unsuccessful, so I think I am ok.

qep rail saw

I wanted to buy a Felker Rail saw to cut 18" tile diagonally, but they won't be available until Late June.
