The subway tiles should not be too difficult to replace, or you can look around for a larger cover plate for the faucet. :)

I don't think anybody here is going to guarantee that the floor would support tile as is, but just looking at the picture it appears to be sturdy. You could give it the "jump test."...

I'm guessing it's moisture. If it were on only one piece of stone I would say it might be iron oxide, rust, in the stone makeup.

Properly installed porcelain tile will support it, but I would recommend changing the wheels to hard rubber. The typical small metal casters are not good. :)

I'm pretty sure unions are still strong in the Bay Area. You could call the local Bricklayers and Allied Craftspersons business office. They'll refer a member tilesetter.

My neighbor just got one. Don't know the brand, but it did up some really great ribs. I have an offset one that takes oak logs. There is no gravity to it except that which keeps it on the ground. ;)

I'm a Schluter man through and through, but I don't think I've ever used one of those seals. In fact, I haven't used seals at all. You don't need them. :)
