I dont know why you wont stick with the original plan of hydronic heat in your floor. It's much more energy efficient than electric and likely a cheaper install as well.

Mastic does not belong anywhere near Kerdi.

Mastic over Hardibacker would likely dry... It's the overlaps that would stay wet. If it is Mastic, I'd tear it out and start over.

I often use Silver Shadow by Laticrete with white tile. Just a light gray, looks nice. Forget PolyBlend... not fun to work with.

Hmmm..... Am I missing something? I always believed Kerdi to be 8mil, and Kerdi band 4mil.... Are you thinking Kerdi-DS? I havent seen the thicker one around here yet, havent had much need for it...
