I want to tile 3 steps with slate they are wood and a wood floor is going to be installed at top of stairs so a nosing has to be put in. Im cutting back the old nosing and puttin the new one on top...

I think you would better have a really sound subfloor, I wouldnt want it in my house. But some people are comfortable with tiling over plywood, I dont see what throwing mesh down is going to do...
