Flood Test Aquadefense Question
 

ok- here goes nothing

I built a shower pan with 4 to 1 mud mix and created a slope using fool proof sticks and then covered with AD. I flood tested the shower and saw some of the bottom the of pan change colors back to the original green of AD. I understand this is normal- however my question is when draining the water I noticed a couple of places where the water didn't drain completely. Can I "fix" this with thin set when I lay the tiles or do I need to fix the slope now and then recover with AD? If I need to fix the slope now, can I just lay the 4 to 1 mud mix back over it using a slurry just prior or what???

I think it should be fixed prior to tiling. However, you don't want to fix it with the 4:1. I'm thinking something like Ardex Feather Finish might be your best bet in that scenario but I don't remember if it's OK for wet areas. I think it's Planipatch they don't want you using in wet areas.

You might call Mapei and see what their solution is. Planipatch is their product and that way you're keeping everything in-brand.

Do you have any pictures showing the areas that didn't drain completely? If they are small (quarter size), it's probably not going to impact the performance of your system. If they are larger hollow areas, you can use Mapecem Quickpatch. Give MAPEI's technical services a call and they'll steer you in the right direction. 800-992-6273

I called Mapei and they suggested Planiprep SC over the floor to fill in the pits and then recover it with Aquadefense. That's happening today!!
