Gas Lines

This is crazy. The morning news mentions that trucks are having a hard time delivering gas out of south Texas because of Harvey. They say not to panic, there is no shortage. What do people do? PANIC!!! So, the idiots wanting to top off their tank causes the long lines at the stations which makes it worse for the folks that really do need gas. Then, the station really does run out of gas which causes folks to freak out even more!

I went down to DQ a mile from the job to get lunch today and noticed lines 30 to 35 cars long leading into all the gas stations. About that time my gas light came on. Yikes! I drive a Diesel so I made it to a truck stop about 15 miles away after I left work this afternoon. Even there the gas lines were long, no wait at all for Diesel.

If I would have had my old 8 track player I would have swore I was back in the 1970's. :)

Anybody else seeing gas lines?

Minor inconvenience compared to those suffering on the coast eh?

Davy 08-31-2017 07:03 PM

No doubt. I'm just saying an uncalled for inconvenience.

Human nature by definition is called for.

No disrespect for anyone in South Texas, I have several friends and family members down there myself. I was just wondering if anyone else was seeing long gas lines because of it. Nothing more than that.

haven't noticed any lines or lack of gas around here (Brownwood area). However, son-in-law tells me several stations in the Lampassas area are out of gas.

Bodie is right--human nature to panic--except for us old eagle scouts

We just had that full eclipse come through our area recently. There were forecasts for upwards of a million visitors to Central Oregon. Someone published a story predicting stations running out of gas and ......whooooosh long lines and empty in-ground tanks from the locals panicking. I was among that crowd. :D

I was needling, no way I thought any less of you.

No long lines or high prices in Houston. By chance, I filled the truck with 128 gallons of diesel 2 days before the rain started.

Refineries are largely automated with oil delivered by pipeline and gasoline sent out by pipeline.

Map of those pipelines.

Read that several large refineries were shut down with fuel prices expected to rise.

The colonial pipeline which goes from Houston to New Jersey is closed. Y'all are screwed

A diesel truck with an 94 gallon auxiliary tank

Bodie Powers 09-01-2017 11:22 PM

Got a pic of that rig?

The tank is an Atta tank made right near Dallas. The bottom pic shows the second fuel gauge inside the truck

What you don't understand is that, whether it be a shortage of unleaded or a dealer trying to just sell high dollar premium, folks want unleaded at a lesser cost and when it is found, they buy. Lots of stations near me are only selling Premium, Katy/West Houston area.

Had to buy 2.60 a gallon premium yesterday instead of the 2.02 I found (HEB) this morning.

Yes I was one of those in line topping off! Driving from Katy to Kingwood to assist relative gets costly! If you are at or near an area that flooded, you get gas when you can!
